Rewilding Urban Spaces
What is rewilding, and how can it help people in the modern world? We'll cover an overview of the movement, articulate the overlap and contrast between ecological and social rewilding, and address some of the challenges facing contemporary urban rewilders.
What is rewilding? Well, it depends on who you ask. The word has several meanings. The term is being contemporarily defined in an ongoing process by conservationists, educators, activists and others around the world. Most broadly, rewilding may be understood in two contexts: social and ecological.
This lecture presents an overview of rewilding, as defined by members of the various, different ecological and social movements. A brief synopsis of human history can help frame the modern rewilding movement. Our discussion will attempt to outline some of the challenges and barriers that exist to oppose rewilding, and suggest solutions that individuals around the world can put into action.
